![]() Grammy Parties RuleOk, last night was the Grammy Awards with my girlfriend Exotica and her friend from class. The Dixie Chicks did well....but that's not the point of my blog today. In fact my blog is kinda double sided. It's to boast about Ubuntu a bit and to boast about me as a musician. So as I toot Ubuntu's and my horn's, just bear with me please. This party I went to last night was really awesome. I met a really cool sound engineer here in Chicago and I met a Executive Producer for a pretty well known Record Company. Most of my interaction was with the producer. We will call him Kumar, since he looked like Kumar from the movie "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle". I was introduced to Kumar by the Sound Engineer guy. Kumar is also a guitar player just as myself, and it turns out I probably caught him at a concert about 5 or 6 years ago. Anyway, we talked about all sorts of stuff. At first it was his and my situations musically. Still we branched off to many many different things and had a great time. We ended up yelling over the volume for about 2.5 hours, and after drinking a few cocktails and yelling, my voice was as tired as could be....still all is fine. Now, I know I mentioned Ubuntu in the beginning of this blog. So, to make a long story short, Kumar knew about Ubuntu. Converted his parents over to Ubuntu as well. He loves it and we are both looking forward to Ubuntu Studio coming out. We talked about it for a while and I was really kinda shocked. I mean, I would have never expected any of these people to be Ubuntu users...well maybe I speculated that at least a few would have been using it. Still when he said it, it was like instant connection. I told him about how I am the Ubuntu Pimp and about the website here. Even though at this point, the site wont be launched until a week from now. So, this just goes to show all of you out there in Cyberland. Don't be afraid to talk about Ubuntu to anyone. Just as long as you don't get too techincal about it, you can talk to anyone. You might be surprised as to who else is using Ubuntu, or Linux or something. Anyway, to get back to the story. Kumar and myself exchanged phone numbers, and he gave me a card with his email on it so we will see where this takes me musically, and all of you as well. He mentioned that many people who listen to Metal and all that were you guys. The computer geeks, the gaming dorks, you know the guys just like me and him. I never realized it, but I think he is right. Many metal fans are the IT guys, the only problem is that us as a community don't leave the house and go to concerts. So there you go guys. If you leave your house to go see the bands you like, you will see others there just like you there. You never know, someone who you talk to on the computer might actually be there and you guys can hang out away from the computer, it would be good for you anyway. Sitting in the house all day sucks, and makes you unhappy and unhealthy. Also, if you get out and you go somewhere you really never can tell who you will meet, or what you will find. Often a few of my friends tell me, "Dude you live a really eventful life". Well that is true, but that is because I get out and do things. To be honest with you, I don't feel like my life is so eventful, there are others who get to do cooler things than me. They get to hang out with many more important people than me. I hope after last night I'm on my way to becoming more important. If that happens then I'll have WAY more to blog about compared to what I have now. Still, I am a pimp, and we will see where life takes me. The thing is I totally have to thank Exotica for being so awesome. She was very patient as I did my talking and stuff. Most girlfriends would have been annoyed but she was understanding so I just want to take this time to thank her. Thank you Exotica, I really appreciated the patience. |
